Exit Information Database - The Development phase for creating our interstate exit database begins with obtaining information at each exit on the interstate. Although there may be a wide variety of businesses and services at some exits, only those that are relevant to travel are recorded.
Each year, teams of "field researchers" are first put through an extensive training program. Then they are sent to travel the entire continental U.S. and Canadian interstate highway system. They stop at every interstate exit visually surveying and recording mile markers, exit numbers, exit sign information, and all businesses and services within a quarter mile of the interstate exit. In addition to recording pertinent business and service information such as name, phone number and address, global position coordinates are recorded for each exit and each business.
